Proposal Development Course
Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce that we are now accepting registrations for the Fall 2008 cohort of our new Proposal Development Course.  The course will meet on Tuesdays from September 2, 2008 through November 25, 2008.  Course meetings will be held in Coates 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  This course is open to full-time EKU faculty and staff who wish to submit grant proposals for external funding to support research, teaching, or service projects to be conducted as part of EKU’s mission. Enrollments will be accepted on a first-come basis. To enroll in the course, please contact Tiffany Hamblin. Space is limited to 15 individuals, so please register early if you plan to participate. 

The Money Hunt: Locating and Evaluating Funding Sources
This hands-on session will focus on searching for funding sources using various databases and resources. The workshop will also cover evaluating funding sources and deciding whether to pursue a grant. Participants will have access to a computer to conduct searches during the workshop if they choose. This session will be a joint presentation by Sponsored Programs and University Development and will address both governmental and private funding.

Proposal Writing 101: Introduction to Grant Proposal Development
This workshop will serve as an introduction to the process of developing a grant proposal, from planning to submitting the final draft. The session will provide an overview of narrative sections that are common to grant proposals and offer general proposal writing tips. No previous proposal writing experience is assumed.

Money Talks: Developing an Adequate and Compliant Proposal Budget
This session will provide an introduction to the process of developing a grant proposal budgets that is both adequate to meet the needs of the proposed project and compliant with University, state, federal, and sponsor guidelines. Budget categories, allowable costs, budget narratives, and other relevant topics will be discussed. Templates and examples will be provided.

Find, Apply, Succeed: An Introduction to Grants.gov
This hands-on session will focus on using the federal government’s electronic grant proposal submission system. Participants will learn to use grants.gov to search for funding sources, download funding application packages, and prepare packages for submission to external sponsors. Participants will also register for email notifications of funding announcements posted to grants.gov.
