FUNDING SOURCES

If you would like assistance with identifying potential sponsors for your project ideas, please complete the Grant Funding Interests Profile or send us an email describing your interests. We will be happy to assist you in searching for funding opportunities that match your interests. The following links are resources for searching for funding opportunities. Sponsored Programs also provides a workshop (The Money Hunt) that focuses on identifying potential sponsors.

Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN)
SPIN is a web-interfaced search engine that provides funding information from various sources, including federal government agencies and private grant-making organizations. InfoEd's GENIUS system provides email alerts of new funding opportunities that meet criteria you specify. Click here to view instructions on creating a profile in the GENIUS system and registering to receive SMARTS alerts.

Federal Funding Sources
Federal agencies and departments play an important role in the grant-making realm. Each federal department and agency have web sites. These sites include helpful information about grant guidelines, deadlines, and past awards. Additionally, they often have the forms you need for submitting your proposal.

GrantsNet
GrantsNet is a searchable grants database that features government and private funding sources for science-related fields.

State of Kentucky Funding
Unfortunately, there is no single source of information on state funding. The best way to ensure your access to state funding is to make contacts with funding agencies within Kentucky's state government. This link will take you to the state government's main page. Clicking on the KY Agencies link at the top of the page will take you to a list of the various agencies, some of which provide grant funding.

Private Funding
Private sources of funding have become an increasingly significant part of today's grant-giving climate. Currently, there are approximately 40,000 grant-giving foundations in the United States. With more funding coming from private sources than ever before and the large amount of dollars available, grant-seekers should become more familiar with the unique process of working with foundations. The University Development Office subscribes to databases of private funding sources. Contact Krista Whitaker for assistance with searching for private funding. Before applying to any private funding source, please contact the Development Office and/or Sponsored Programs.

The Grantsmanship Center Index of Funding Sources
The Grantsmanship Center provides lists of top grantmaking foundations, corporating giving programs, and community foundations by state as well as links to federal funding information.
